Yr 6 transition
Congratulations on being offered a place at Elthorne Park High School. This year we received almost 1000 applications for 240 places in Year 7 and we are delighted that your application has been successful. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school community and I am very excited about meeting you, your parents or carers and all of our other new Year 7s over the next few months.
I know that you may be experiencing different emotions at the moment; hopefully you’ll be excited about joining Elthorne Park High School but you may also be feeling nervous about leaving behind your primary school and teachers. I would say that nearly all of our new Year 7s feel like this at times and we will do everything we can to help you settle into life at Elthorne.
We have been planning an exciting programme of transition activities that will help you to get ready for starting secondary school in September. We are currently visiting your primary school and speaking to your Year 6 teachers to learn more about you and your learning. As part of our transition programme, there are three key dates that we want to remind you of:
During the week beginning Monday 9th June, we invited you and your parents in for a transition meeting. The presentation for these meetings can be found below.
On Monday 23rd June we invited parents to come to our year 6 Welcome Evening. Children were not be invited to this event as they also had assemblies at primary school in that week. The presentation from this event can be found below and you can view our parent/carer handbook here.
Friday 27th June is the Ealing Induction Day and all Year 6 students spent the day at Elthorne Park High School following a timetable and trialling Year 7 lessons. The day started at 8:45am with a meet and greet in the school hall and students were dismissed at 3pm.
Reading Project - We are proud to be a Reading School at EPHS and believe that reading is an important at secondary school as it is at primary school. We have created the Summer Reading Project to help you choose a book to read over the summer and then complete on one of the six tasks. We look forward to hearing which book you choose. You can watch the video below for more information.
Uniform - You can order uniform at any time from now onwards and whilst there is no urgency to do this immediately, orders should be placed by the middle of June to ensure you have received all items in time for a September start. We are very happy to be partnering with Juniper Uniform based in West Ealing and School Bells who are based in Hounslow. Uniform will be available to buy online or in person at their stores. The uniform policy can be viewed on the school website.
On Wednesday 3rd September:
- Please arrive between 9:45am and 10:00am at the Westlead Road main gate.
- Be in full school uniform but you do not need your PE kit
- You will have both a break and lunch time. Please make sure you have topped up your child’s ParentPay account or send them with a packed lunch. If your child is eligible for Free School Meals (as indicated by the council) this will be credited to your account.
- Please bring a school bag containing a pencil case with stationery as per the equipment list on page 11 of our parent/carer handbook.
- We will give you a lanyard and your ID card - you do not need to buy this unless you loose or damage one.
- If you take medication in school, including an inhaler or Epipen, we should now have a care plan for you and you will need to bring your medication to school on the first day, clearly labelled with your name and the expiry date. Ms Walters will collect this from you to keep in the welfare office. Please note, we also expect students to carry an inhaler or Epipen in their school bags. No other medication should be carried
On Thursday 4th September:
- Please arrive by 8:40am at the Westlea Road gate.
- Try and find your tutor room when the bell rings; there will be people to help.
- You’ll be following your usual timetable for Week 1, Thursday.
- You’ll have a break and lunchtime on this day and follow normal school timings.
- If you’ll need your PE kit on this day, we will have told you on Wednesday.
- You will finish at 3:10pm
We have also included a guide to Parent Pay below, and login details have already been sent to parents/carers. Please send any general transition queries to admissions@ephs.ealing.sch.uk. We can’t wait to meet all of our new students and parents and look forward to seeing you over the next few weeks.
