The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is the central point for all our students’ reading and research needs. Our LRC offers a quiet environment for individual reading, research, homework, small group work and whole class learning. Students in Year 7 and 8 also have regular English lessons in the LRC.
We have two dedicated professional librarians. In addition we have about twenty student librarians, who help out in the LRC during the lunch-hour; at least four are on duty each day.
We are open from 8:00 am to 4.30pm each day. Outside lesson time we are open to all students before school from 8 am; at lunchtime we are open to a different year group each day on a rota. We run a general homework club after school from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30pm.
We have a wide range of fiction books for all abilities and interests for students to read and borrow. We have a good collection of non fiction books to support homework and for general interest.
We also have many newspapers and magazines as well as eleven networked computers, a digital scanner, a photocopier and colour printer. We have recently bought a ‘visualiser’ which allows our teachers to project any text or images directly from page on to a screen.
We run a number of special events throughout the year in addition to our usual work supporting students and staff, including
We are always willing to listen to what students and parents want to see in our LRC. We are constantly reviewing our provision and support.
As part of our preparations for the opening of the 6th Form we are looking to increase the range of books and resources we have available. In particular we shall be buying research resources for the BTEC and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as well as foreign language newspapers, magazine and books.
