Learning Support at EPHS

Life at Elthorne > Learning Support

Young people with every type of need are supported at our school and we make our best efforts to ensure that every child in our school makes good progress and is well prepared for adulthood.

The department for education has recognised four types of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), in the SEND Code of Practice 2014:
1. Communication and interaction
2. Cognition and learning
3. Social, mental and emotional health
4. Sensory or physical

As a school we will sometimes commission other professionals to help us meet an individual child’s needs in school or we may need to recruit staff or buy specialist equipment in order to support a child with SEN.

Alternative Resource Provision

Elthorne Park High School’s Additional Resource Provision (ARP) is an inclusive provision which caters for up to 15 children from year 7 to year 13; across key stages 3, 4 and 5. The ARP supports students with Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN). These learners have a Speech/ Language Delay and their verbal cognitive skills are below average. Although these children may present with behavioural problems or ASD, this is not their main area of need. All pupils must have an EHCP within the area of speech/language to be eligible for the ARP. The aim of the ARP is to provide a safe, secure and supportive environment in which students can improve their speech and language skills so that they can reach their full potential, whilst integrating into as much of the mainstream curriculum as possible. For further information, please see the Entry/Exit Criteria Document below.
