MFL Activities

It's been a busy week in MFL

On Tuesday 1st July we had our 2mfl Y8 rewards breakfast. At 8.20 am, more than fifty Year 8 dual linguists squeezed into D05 in the sweltering heat for a continental breakfast , music, chatting and multi lingual bingo.  This was a lovely celebration of their perseverance and pride in doing a second language. The early start was a timely trial run as next year their lessons will be before school.

Congratulations Y8 Dual linguists!

After school it was the turn of the Y9 dual linguists to be celebrated. They enjoyed a picnic and boules in the J block garden. We are very proud of their resilience and participation, key Elthorne values , attending early morning lessons all year! A few of them are taking both languages at GCSE . Well done Y9 Dual Linguists!

On Wednesday 2nd July Ms Googridge took a small group to attend More than Words: Languages for the Future, a one-day event organised by Pearson Edexcel and held at the iconic Arsenal Emirates Stadium. Designed to inspire students who may not immediately see the value in learning a foreign language — or who feel unsure about their abilities — the event was packed with engaging presentations, interactive activities, and a mini careers fair focused on the diverse opportunities that languages can unlock.

Our students represented Elthorne Park High School with pride, showing exemplary behaviour and immersing themselves fully in the day’s events. While we didn’t compete in the talent contest, we all enthusiastically joined in with a lively Bollywood dance session — with staff showing just as much energy as the students! It was a joyful moment that captured the spirit of the day: learning languages can be fun, inclusive, and empowering.

At Elthorne, we’re proud of the breadth and quality of our language provision, offering and supporting a wide range of languages for GCSE study. This event reaffirmed our commitment to encouraging every student to see the value of languages — not just for exams, but for life beyond the classroom.

In addition to all the fun, Y10 linguists have completed their speaking test this week.
