Revision strategies

At EPHS we recognise that academic success is dependent on the ability to remember key curriculum knowledge over the long term. During revision we use the following steps to ensure that students are able to revise curriculum content in an efficient way that ensures that they can access it when required.

Students practise active recall at the start of each lesson with a ‘recall starter’ which helps to build retention of key knowledge. Alongside this, regular assessments across Key stage 3, 4 and 5, which are outlined on our Assessment Trackers at the front of each exercise book, offer the opportunity for us to assess student understanding and identify areas to focus on moving forward. As students get closer to their public examinations in Year 11 and 13, they are offered a series of Pre-public examinations which give an experience of completing work under exam conditions. These offer further opportunities for students to identify areas of the curriculum that they may need to revisit and prioritise for revision. We offer a number of high quality online revision tools to support with this.
