Train to Teach
At EPHS, we are proud to be a training school. There are a number of routes into teaching that we support through an expert team of mentors and induction tutors.
PGCE
We regularly host PGCE students from the Institute of Education as part of University College London across a number of subject areas. Students are supported by expert mentors and a bespoke series of in-house training sessions as part of our Professional Studies programme which complements their university study.
TeachFirst
We have a long standing relationship with Teach First, regularly hosting both Summer and Autumn Institutes where Initial Teacher Training trainees get their first experience teaching. As a Teach First school, we welcome trainees in a number of subject areas who are supported by the Initial Teacher Training Team. Teach First trainees benefit from working with a team of experienced and committed mentors in school alongside extensive external training and support from Teach First. These teachers are then offered continuing support as they become Early Career Teachers.
Teach West London
As our Appropriate Body for teacher training, we also host trainees on the Initial Teacher Training route through Teach west London. This includes both salaried and unsalaried options. These trainees also benefit from expert and experienced mentors within the school alongside regular high quality external training.
Continuing Professional Development
All staff at EPHS benefit from a supportive programme of continuing professional development including biannual CPD carousels which offer a range of options for staff to choose from. We ensure that this offer is tiered in order to offer specific training of interest to Middle Leaders and staff at all stages of their career. We also run a whole school Action Research project called Elthorne Innovates where staff benefit from the input of expert speakers such as David Didau and Matt Bromley. We encourage all staff to take risks and innovate within their practice and this programme offers the opportunity to do so in a supportive way, sharing insights both within and across departments and disciplines.
