Performing Arts at EPHS

The Performing Arts Department is at the heart of the school and prides itself on its promotion of inclusivity, participation and the pursuit of excellence.

We are fortunate to have Drama and Music as a continuous part of the KS3 curriculum (Years 7-9) which helps to set the foundation for our extracurricular activities. Students from all years have several opportunities to perform on stage throughout the academic year.

It is a beautiful showcase of the immense talent we have in our school. Students who have an interest in singing, dancing, acting and/or playing a musical instrument have the opportunity to audition.

In the Spring Term, we have our Drama Festival which is a focused celebration of Drama and Theatre. Students are welcome to perform monologues, duologues and/or group pieces from a range of plays. Shakespeare is the most popular playwright for Act 1, but Act 2 can feature work from other playwrights. It is a wonderful exhibition of the talent our young thespians have at EPHS!

In June, we have our vibrant Summer Festival! This exciting outdoor event provides our students with a different and unique platform within which to perform. Featuring amazing food, stalls and a range of activities, our young performers provide us with outstanding live music and dance across two stages, to create the best festival vibe and atmosphere.

In the lead up to all of these special events, students have access to the Performing Arts facilities and equipment to help them prepare their pieces. Students receive constant support, rehearsal techniques, coaching and feedback from our highly skilled Music / Drama staff to enable them to deliver the most confident and professional performances.

Just before we break for the Summer holidays, we have our famous Whole School Musical. This show involves 150 students each year on average, and it is a marvellous celebration of the unity in our school community. Students are involved in every aspect of the creative process as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, sound and lighting technicians, costume/hair and make-up artists, backstage crew and front of house. We run our shows with the utmost professionalism and they are always of the highest quality. It is an incredible way to celebrate all that has been achieved throughout the academic year.

We are so lucky to be in a school where the value of Performing Arts is recognised and appreciated. Performing Arts at EPHS gives every student the opportunity to grow, develop and shine!
